As of March, Costco operated 448 membership warehouse clubs in the United
States, 85 in Canada, 32 in Mexico, 23 in the United Kingdom, 13 in Japan, nine
in Taiwan, nine in Korea, and three in Australia. The base and executive
memberships cost $55 and $110 per year, respectively. The company sells food,
fuel, and general merchandise to its members but derives most of its profits
from membership fees. Costco is now the third-largest retailer in the U.S.
based on revenue.
